OCTOBER

‘Every little helps’

Summer has been and gone along with some heat waves as well as mixed weather. Many shops now have items on their shelves for Christmas and as the clocks go back, so one season ends and a new one begins. As usual we have a number of fund raising events coming up and some already planned for next year. We have also signed up to the 'Co-op Community Fund' and 'Give as you Live' (see details later in the newsletter), where you can raise money for our cause when doing your regular shopping.

We also ask for your assistance with the Aviva Community Fund, (again see details later in the newsletter) where we need votes to win funding, the more votes the better!!! Go to the link and follow the instructions.

So please continue to support us and help turn our ambition of providing a new building for the community into a reality.

A great big thank you to Project 49 and to all the wonderful people, (but not forgetting Mia the Husky dog) who took part in this event. So far over £1,000 has been raised and more is coming in !!!
A big thank you !!! Well done to all of you !!!

NEWSLETTER 26 / 2017

JULY

It's been a little while since the last newsletter, but nevertheless much has been going on ‘behind the scenes’. We have lots of good news to report on our recent events and fund raising efforts. Also for those who don’t already know, shortly after our AGM in May we received planning permission for our new building. You will see that the picture above has been updated to reflect this. We are now moving forward with our Architect and Engineers to complete the design and working drawings. Once this is done our Quantity Surveyor will then send the information onto local builders for pricing. When we receive the quotations back from the builders we will know exactly how much more we need to raise for the building work.

The Big Lottery

Fantastic news!!! We have been awarded nearly £9,000 by the Big Lottery as a contribution towards professional fees. This money will be used to pay for completing the design and tendering process

ORB Breakfast event
This was held at the Castle Pub on the Eastern Esplanade in Southend on Sea on 9th May. £196 was raised. Many thanks to Jill Poet who organised the event, and also to the pub landlady Janet Hills and her hard working staff, who cooked a great full English breakfast!!!
Curry Evening

A very enjoyable evening was had by all. The event raised £206
Waitrose

Many thanks to all those local shoppers who kindly put a green token in our box. As a result Waitrose has donated £398 to our project

A Big Thank you to Lisa Weir who worked tirelessly to organise and run this hugely enjoyable and successful event raising £650! It was a great day with lots of football and raffle prizes too!
The eventual winning men’s team was Dad’s Barmy Army and the winning ladies’ side was Class on Grass

Thorpe Bay Open Gardens

Many thanks to The Burges Estate Residents Association and to the kind people who opened their gardens and worked so hard for this very well supported event. Five private gardens were open to the public for viewing on the Saturday 17th June. More than 300 people visited the gardens, paying a small entrance fee. There were also afternoon teas, plants and works of art on sale. We are very pleased to report that more than £900 was raised for our project
Special Beach Wheelchairs
Many thanks to Thorpe Bay Rotary Club and to the disability charity Scope who have kindly donated special wheelchairs which will give adults access onto the beach
Below you will see our Chairman Mike Stafford being presented a chair by the Thorpe Bay Rotary Club
